Homework

KS2 Homework

Pupils in Year 5 & 6 have weekly Reading, English and Maths homework. Occasionally, other subjects will set homework. All homework is set via Classcharts.

Y5 & Y6 Reading

Your child should read each day. We suggest 30 minutes throughout the day - this can be tracked on Accelerated Reader. Listening to your child read aloud for 5 - 10 minutes each day is the best way to help them make progress. KS3 Homework

As your child moves into the secondary phase, good homework routines are very important. Homework tasks should take 20 - 25 minutes to complete. If you find that your child is taking longer than this, please sign the work to say that they have spent the allotted time on the task.

KS3 Reading

Your child should read each day. We suggest 30 minutes throughout the day - this can be tracked on Accelerated Reader. Research suggests there is a positive correlation between the hours spent reading and academic success across all subjects.

Reading not only enhances literacy skills but also nurtures imagination and critical thinking. Whether it’s books, magazines, or articles, sharing stories can instil a lifelong love of reading in your child. Listening to your child read aloud is beneficial as this will improve their fluency and intonation; discussing plots and characters will help them to verbalise their own ideas and thoughts.
